My name is Bella Rodriguez and I am a member of the National Hispanic Institute. I am also what is called a "legacy" participant. My mom and dad both attended LDZ many years ago when they were my age. My parents are also the Educational Directors for some of the NHI Programs. As a result of their involvement, I have been around NHI programs since I was 4 years old. This has become part of our lives as a family. My brother attended all of the NHI programs as well and now serves as a trainer through his position as "SOS". Last summer, I finally got to attend my very first program as a participant in the Texas Great Debate. It was a great experience for me and I am motivated to continue my journey. Last week, I attended "Celebracion-2019", it was the most amazing experience for so many reasons: I got to see many people that I had met over the summer and I got to meet a lot of people from other places that I had never met before. At NHI, we focus on our core values or what we refer to as " I am NHI Fundamentals". They are a reminder of who we all strive to be as leaders in our daily lives as well as while at NHI. For me, Fundamental #13 is very important to me: INITIATE PLANS & DELIVER RESULTS. "Take personal responsibility for making things happen. Respond to every situation by looking for how we can do it, rather than explaining why it can’t be done. While we appreciate effort, we reward and celebrate results. Set high goals, measure your progress, and hold yourself accountable for achieving those results. "
I know that I can ask my parents to pay for my LDZ tuition and they probably would do it, but my mom and dad would also say "what kind of example are we setting if we just give you the money to go ?" As an NHI'er, I have to find a way to make it happen for myself and I am asking each of you to think about investing a small amount of money in me as a leader for the next generation. Can you spare $20 to help me reach my goal? With your help, me and
